Actress Eva Riccobono will host the inauguration ceremony of the 70th Venice International Film Festival on the evening of Wednesday 28 August, on the stage of the Sala Grande (Palazzo del Cinema on the Lido). This will be followed by the screening of the opening film (Out of Competition) Gravity, directed by Alfonso Cuaròn and starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, from Warner Bros. Pictures.
On 7 September, the actress will also host the closing ceremony, during which the winners of the Lions and the other official prizes of the 70th Venice Film Festival will be announced.
The 70th Venice Film Festival will be held on the Lido from 28 August to 7 September 2013, directed by Alberto Barbera and organized by the Biennale di Venezia, chaired by Paolo Baratta.
Eva Riccobono was born in Palermo of an Italian father and German mother. At a very young age she moved to Milan, and soon became one of the most famous top models on the international scene, sought after by the most important photographers in the world, such as Bruce Weber, Arthur Elgort, Patrick Demarchelier, Mario Testino, Gilles Bensimon, Annie Leibovitz, Paolo Roversi, Ellen von Unwerth, Craig McDean, Peter Lindbergh, David Bailey, Miles Aldridge. She has modelled for the most important names in fashion and for many of them she has been the celebrity spokeswoman in international campaigns: Giorgio Armani, Gianfranco Ferrè, Emanuel Ungaro, Dolce & Gabbana.
She made her debut in television in 2002 alongside Fiorello, the host of the programme “Stasera pago io”: the show’s huge success brought Eva instant popularity among the audience, as well as critical acclaim and excellent ratings. Seven years later, Fiorello invited her back to open his new show “Il più grande spettacolo dopo il week end”.
She made her film debut in 2008 with Carlo Verdone in the comedy Grande Grosso e Verdone, an episode film in which she played the role of Blanche, the main character’s dream woman. Eva’s performance left its mark.
In 2012 she starred as a heroin-addicted prostitute in the controversial but award-winning film by Paolo Franchi E la chiamano estate (And they call it summer), winner of the Best Director Award at the Rome Film Festival.
But Eva Riccobono’s artistic reputation was consolidated in 2013: for her role as Simonetta in Marco Ponti’s film Passione Sinistra, she won the Ciak d’Oro award for Best Supporting Actress. She also earned a nomination in the same category for the Nastro d’Argento.
This year, too, she starred in the film by Luigi Cecinelli Niente può fermarci, which addressed the theme of young people and their fear of the future, but in the form of a light-hearted comedy.
She has recently finished work on a new film by Renato De Maria entitled La vita oscena, inspired by Aldo Nove‘s novel of the same name.
